What a way to be woken up. I feel like I've just got out of jail!!! It's time to stop the 'Rip Van Winkle' mode and ' flag a blog '.
I'll come to 'Th'Owd Towser' shortly but 'Hear now' we've had the Holmfirth Film Festival and it's Holmfirth Arts Festival time again and at the end of the month of June it's Holmfirth Art Week and the Fringe events plug for ' Light without Heat '.

So where is the art Zen amongst all this art cacophony, down at ' Th'Owd Towser' and the Artists Talks which have been arranged to take place alongside the curated exhibition of artists responses to the space, a Grade 1 listed heritage site, once used as Holmfirth village church lockup, mortuary, ambulance station and fire station. Perhaps the oldest building in Holmfirth dating from circa 1597.
This well thought out, meaningful contemporary snapshot of ' art now responses' and the discussion follow up create a sense of , ' being part of the process ' , audience inclusiveness at it's best. More of this is needed to encourage the audience of potential consumers of artists' works. A big up to Alice Bradshaw and Vanessa Haley who curated the show.

Okay, We're back from our Tour de France, not on 2 wheeled transport I might add but dans le Campeurvan, we did 5.5 weeks this time. What an absolutely luscious, mouth watering, feast of delightful delicacies passed into our brains digestive tract, saite, monsieur ? Oh OUI !!!! Les image will be posted when I get them sorted. I know I say that every year. C'est la vie.

Now, let's get down to the real purpose of this post. As some of you observant types will have already spotted my profile pic has changed, keep spotting, 'cos it's got a mind to get morphing and not only that it wants to make friends with other, Profile Pics.

You see, it's always the same when an inanimate object gets into personification there's no telling what it will get up to.

Here's what it said, " Go forth, O Master, into the fields of plenty. Bring back unto me the gift of curated, Profile Pics, so that I might be amongst mine own for I am lonely without friends for company and begetting. "

Well, what with the deep sounding voice of authority and all that backing noise I began to doubt that I was the Master, anyway, I'm off to do it's bidding and arriving shortly in one form or another will be a curated collection of Profile Pics of course they will not in any way have the capacity to look at you or me but they will, I am sure, give you and me A New LOOK.

Brown Paper Bag

Now, mentioning the fact that paper bags are sometimes square is pushing a link to my last post in case it sinks without trace due to lack of activity. The rise of SQUARE power.

Have just finished printing a set of winter images for dispay in the local cafe, Angies. Six SQUARE frames with six SQUARE images of last winters snow inspired by IKEA square frames, local winter conditions and PLATFORM58.

Check out Platform58 the networking site for artists run by a friend of mine. On it he runs a monthly e-zine to which any of the platform58 members can submit an image on the theme for the month. All images have to be 580 X 580 pixels at 72dpi, hence the SQUARE in the title. No golden section here just the plain common or garden, SQUARE.

Maybe this is the start of a more active blog, who knows, I just found an extension for the Firefox web browser called, ScribeFire, yes you guessed it, a blogging tool. Now I can prep, preview then publish as and when.
Now with Paula and her jumping frogs and foxes on fire here are the Rogue Rabbits.... Caught on camera whilst on the homeward leg through the grounds of Monk Coniston on a walk round Tarn Hows in the Lake District.

ARTLINE08 was the first art show at the recently opened Jane Galvin Gallery in the Slawit studio which is located in a village called Slaithwaite in the Colne Valley, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. As you can see the preview night got the show off with a bang a great time had by all including the five artists.

Holmfirth Art Week

Open to the public from 10.00 a.m. today and one of the major art happenings around Huddersfield is the annual Holmfirth Art Week. Two of the Soul Oaks are at the show all week drinking in the heady arty brew that's on tap, £2.00 a visit.

A SHIFT-Y look round this morning brought into focus the wide range of ability and subject matter that forms the mainstay of this essentially 2D show, see Paula Moss , John Coombes and Jean Bashford and Robert Norbury.
Jewellery and ceramics showing an increase in the number of entries along with some excellent furniture pieces, Look out for Mick Silkstone, Alison Cambell and Ian Marsh.
Amongst the sculptors Look out for, David Mayne , Mick Kirby-Geddes , Wayne Markwort , Jamie Frost, and Julian Pratt.

Ahh, now for the Fringe again, over the road and into the Co-Op car park just in time to see A Load of old balls......

Waiting outside the Methodist Church for the morning service to end so that they could get in and erect some serious Heres fencing upon which they were mounting the Exhibition of the same name. Trash 11 Treasure were presenting 250 works from 42 artists. Probably just as well the methodists hadn't seen the connection, Eh !!

The festival which takes place in Marsden, West Yorkshire, England and known as the, Marsden Imbolc, has only been celebrated since 1993, and was originated by, Duggs Carre, a folklore enthusiast working for the local council. More at, www.asanas.org.uk/files/002jonesi.pdf.

It's a great do and the fireworks display has to be seen to be believed.

Woke at 4.30 this am, been surfing since then. Still need to get green transport attached to Vee UU transport then head for campsite 1 close to Sizergh castle, south lakes for a couple of, nights!!

Surfing, the name that has become associated with the activity of connecting to the World Wide Network, ( commonly known as the Net or Internet ), of computers and letting yourself select from and follow the connections that are presented to you on your viewing screen. I'd like to change it.
The activity, for me, does not bring to mind the same, fast, energetic, youthful, sensations as those generated by the water sport of the same name, but more those of the activity called, beach combing, those with a natural pace punctuated by frequent stops to scan the far off horizon for signs of ships, a general slow intake of the zinging, ozonified, sea air and to gaze across the silver wet surface of the abundantly, pebble strewn, beach in anticipation of that wondrous, revelationary like moment when, one of the, sea shaped pebbles, uniquely catches your attention and you are powerless to stop yourself from stooping to pick it up, admire it's attributes and pop it into your pocket so that it can be added to your collection when you get back home.
So, Beach Combing not Surfing? It's too cumbersome, probably needs to be one word, so the search is on for a new word, Beaching, Combing, Beachombing, Beachoming, Chombing, I'll let you know when I find one or maybe you will find it, if you do then let me know.

Artistic idea No. 1. Publish list of web site addresses visited during a session on selected theme as a poem.

I'll work on that for the next Sklog.

Been hunting down a magazine copy of netobjects fusion 8 that I lent to a friend. Well, he resides the other side of Upperthong, about ten mins away so off I went. Turns out it's not the right friend or version. Got a cup of coffee and a chat. Stefan is a furniture designer and other stuff. At the moment he's working on a novel bird house. Did some cleaning out in the new camper van, a VW T4 2.5TDI Westfalia California, so, I was using an old tooth brush to clean the flooring, it's got lots of small raised squares, to get in the cracks, got lots of funny looks from the neighbours and a slurred giggling, Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum, hick, from Hazel, anyhow, now it looks brand spanking new so watch it with those muddy boots!!!

misterburnley.com , the artist !!! has been using his fathers legacy, tubes of oil paint he hadn't used before he died, and ....... p..a..i..n..t..i..n..g.... ooohh that is soooo hard to do I hear him cry out in pain. Well, yeah he's been making his own canvas frames and painting them with a flexible plaster ground, like a dog treading round and round to make a bed before it lies down to sleep. That's taken about 3 weeks. So now there are three canvasses and one picture finished. It's titled, Entanglement 1, something to do with quantum theory I think he said, read it in one of his weekly New Scientists, his fount of all knowledge. If it works when I insert a pic you should see it below, if not then I'll stick it on a picassa link tomorrow. Because.... the bathtime call has reached my ears, that means Hazel has disrobed and I should get along to the bathroom pronto.

Verging terrortory as you can read and therefore have some in - sight ( maybe mental pictures ) you may deduce that this is the first time I have entered the sphere of blogging.
Today I'm exploring setting up the settings, working out what facilities they offer, feed twitter text colour? and informing you about the reasons for setting up the blogging blog in the first place, no, I'm not getting frustrated, really, I'm calm cool and collected, It's a family sharing activity, a new media art process recording experiment and also enjoyment, for me, you, and everybody else, so there!
